PostgreSQL extensions are no longer limited to the heroku_ext schema

Change effective on 11 August 2023

You can now install PostgreSQL extensions on any schema on your existing Heroku Postgres databases. We previously removed the heroku_ext restriction for extensions installed in newly created databases. PostgreSQL extensions install in the public schema by default for all Postgres plans.

This change doesn’t affect your existing extensions as they remain in their installed schema. For customers who used the Extensions on Any Schema for Heroku Postgres Data Labs feature, no action is required as the feature has been removed from your database.

For more information, see Extensions, PostGIS, and Full Text Search Dictionaries on Heroku Postgres.
