End-of-life of legacy SSL add-ons
Change effective on 07 April 2014
Add-ons of types ssl:hostname and ssl:ip and the infrastructure backing them will be retired on September 22nd, 2014.
Heroku Dev Center has documentation on how to move to the new ssl:endpoint add-on. Note that ssl:endpoint has some limitations on support for root domain, depending on the DNS provider you are using.
Heroku is retiring the legacy SSL to standardize on a common SSL termination solution that is secure, well documented and well supported.
