Selective Availability for builds of Heroku-16 apps
Change effective on 08 March 2021
Heroku-16, our stack based on Ubuntu 16.04 Long Term Support, was previously deprecated and is due to reach end-of-life on May 1st, 2021.
In order to ensure that customers still deploying changes to apps using the Heroku-16 stack are aware of the upcoming end-of-life and build disablement dates, the first attempt to build each app using the Heroku-16 stack will fail with a deprecation notice according to the following schedule:
- from March 22nd, 2021: first build per app within a 7-day period;
- from May 1st, 2021: first build per app each day.
The build output will include a message instructing users to upgrade to a newer stack as soon as possible.
Subsequent builds of the same app during the respective period will function normally after this deprecation notification, so a second deploy attempt will proceed as usual, and existing running apps will remain unaffected.
