Node.js default version is now 16.x
Change effective on 31 January 2022
The active LTS version line for Node.js is 16.x, as stated on the Node.js release schedule. We’ve updated the default version for Node.js builds from 14.x to 16.x to match. This change was made to stay in compliance with our stated Node.js support policy. The previous default of 14.x is now a maintenance-only LTS release.
You should always specify a version of Node (as illustrated here), but if you do not, Node.js 16 will be installed for you.
